Phone Subscription and internet penetration continues to expand in Africa’s most populous country.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) disclosed that phone subscriptions and internet penetration have reached 100 million and 147 million respectively in 2018.

The Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta who was represented by the NCC Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Tony Ojobo at the NCC Special Day at the ongoing 29th Enugu International Trade Fair said the country’s social media space had continued to thrive.

“With broadband penetration of 21 per cent, Nigeria’s social media space has continued to thrive and citizens are enjoying access to modern ways of interaction in the cyberspace,” he said.

“It is our commitment to keep the nation abreast of developments in telecommunications industry through innovative and world class regulatory processes,” he said.

Although Internet connectivity on the African continent continues to grow, its reach in Africa is still limited. In some poor countries, such as Niger, Burundi and South Sudan, less than 5% of people have access to mobile internet.
