US forces have carried out their second air strike in three days in Horn of Africa, killing another 27 Shabaab extremists, the American military said.
The latest strike occurred on Saturday in Somaliland, about 42km southwest of Bosasso port in Puntland, a semi-autonomous region.
A statement from the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) gave no further details of the operation but said it was carried out in coordination with Somalia’s government.
On Friday, AFRICOM said a US airstrike had killed 12 militants from the Shabaab, an Al Qaeda affiliate, about 48km southwest of Mogadishu on Thursday.
The Trump administration approved expanded military operations against extremists in Somalia, including al-Shabaab blamed for the truck bombing in Mogadishu in October that killed more than 500 people.
