It’s January, and that means everyone is obsessed with travel. If you’re not actually on holidays yourself, we know you’re busy plotting your next escape.

And for those who missed out on Cathay Pacific’s incredible accidental fares ($966 for return business flights to New York!), there are still some decent cheap flights out there.

Among current deals that are legitimately on offer, there are $224 return flights to Malaysia, and $49 return flights to Fiji for kids. Or score a Thailand package including return flights and accommodation from $545.

Here are our picks of hot deals we’ve seen this week:


Launching today, Jetstar and The International Resolutions Sale will allow passengers flying from Sydney and Melbourne to Honolulu for just $259 one way. You’ll need to be able to travel between 29 April and 26 June 2019, with the sale ending on January 16th.


Travelonline is currently offering $49 return flights for kids under 12 with any of its Fiji package deals. Packages start from $1435 per adult for seven nights’ accommodation at Plantation Island Resort, including flights (from Sydney), transfers and bonuses.

AirAsia currently has flights from Perth to Kuala Lumpur from $136 and flights from Kuala Lumpur to Perth from $88 ($224 return). Fares for selected dates only between February and April. Airfare-watching site I Know the Pilot reports the airline is also selling Gold Coast-Kuala Lumpur flights from $353, Melbourne (Avalon)-Kuala Lumpur from $364 and Sydney-Kuala Lumpur from $393. Jetstar has flights from Darwin to Bali from mid-January to early February from $149, with return flights from $105 (or $264 return). Flights from Brisbane start from $199 (January-March), Melbourne from $229 (January-March), and Sydney from $239 (February/March). See


Skyscanner has return flights to Hong Kong from Brisbane or Adelaide with Virgin Australia from $470 return. Flights from Sydney start from $473, Melbourne from $519 and Perth from $599 return. See


Flight Centre is offering return flights and six nights’ accommodation at Sunset Beach Resort, Phuket, from $545 a person (from Perth), for travel between May 7 and May 31. The deal from Sydney is from $649, Adelaide from $795 and Brisbane from $1089. Ph 131 600 and quote ‘5384010’.

Webjet’s “Flight Deal of the Week” is Osaka return with Malaysia Airlines from $629 from Perth, $634 from Melbourne, $639 from Adelaide, $659 from Sydney and $709 from Brisbane. Fares are for selected dates from January to November 2019. Sale ends January 18. See

Just remember, as of January 7, all passengers will need to pay a 1000 yen fee when departing Japan.


Scoot has flights to Berlin from the Gold Coast from $638 return for select dates during April and May, for bookings of two or more. Flights from Melbourne and Sydney start from $678 return. See
