GAI Waterhouse is more worried about rivals Dubious and Exilarates than she is the wide barriers her duo, Unite And Conquer and Czarson, must overcome to give the trainer a record fifth win in the $2 million Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) on the Gold Coast.
“Dubious won the Breeders Plate and that is a good two-year-old’s race,’’ Waterhouse said. “He’s a tough colt and he’s had the right preparation.
“Exhilarates was very good last week and I like those back-up horses.’’
Godolphin’s Exhilarates is the $4.60 favourite with TAB Fixed Odds for the Magic Millions ahead of unbeaten Dubious at $5.

Waterhouse, who trains in partnership with Adrian Bott, has two runners, the unbeaten colts Unite And Conquer ($6) and Czarson ($7).
Unite And Conquer had been the long-time Magic Millions favourite until he drew barrier 18 while stablemate Czarson didn’t fare much better with gate 15.
But Waterhouse is adamant she can add to her four wins in the glamour God Coast juvenile race after her successes with Assertive Lad (2000), Excellerator (2001), Dance Hero (2004) and Driefontein (2012).
“I never worry about barriers, I’ve won two Golden Slippers from wide barriers,’’ she said. “Unite And Conquer is a go-forward horse, he’s got brilliant gate speed, and Czarson is very adaptable.
“Both colts are thriving on the Gold Coast, they have been there long enough to acclimatise.
“Their coats look great, their condition looks great and both worked very stylishly this week.
“I’m very happy with them, either could win the race.”

Waterhouse and Bott also have good chances with Invincible Star in the $1 million Magic Millions Sprint (1200m), Arbeitsam in the $1 million Magic Millions Cup (1400m) and Terminology in the $250,000 Magic Millions Maiden (1200m).
“Invincible Star is ‘joyous’, she is a lovely, lovely mare,’’ Waterhouse said.
“We probably backed her up too soon at Wyong last start, she prefers to have her races spaced. She is the one they have to beat.
“Arbeitsam is a very tough individual, some of his best runs have been first-up and I can’t see why he can’t do that again.
“Terminology was beaten by a very good horse (Military Zone) in the Gosford Guineas but I’ve never been so pleased to run second because she is still eligible for this rich maiden.’’
At Royal Randwick, Waterhouse believes they have found the right race for Hussterical when she contests the Membership Handicap (1500m) while the improving Zeppelin is only fourth emergency for the Autumn Carnival On Sale Handicap (1800m).
Waterhouse also forecast a competitive showing from Cabeza De Vaca in the Listed $140,000 Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.
