Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has announced plans to audit staff to streamline the workforce and rationalise the various job groups. The governor spoke when he met more than 3,000 county staff at his office for a thanksgiving breakfast; to appreciate their efforts following the county’s impressive performance and prudent use of funds allocated to counties under the Kenya Devolution Support Programme (KDSP) in the 2017-2018 financial year. Nyeri was ranked second after Nyandarua by the KDSP County Annual Capacity and Performance Assessment report. During the ceremony, staff also thanked the governor for ensuring that their salaries were paid on time, and that they were adequately appraised and motivated.

Mr Kahiga told the employees the county was rated among the best in timely and efficient payment of salaries and pension to retired workers. “We currently hold the national trophy for County Pensions Fund scheme for our quick turnaround time in payments,” he stated. The governor said 800 Early Childhood Development Education centres caregivers and 163 interns had been hired. “We have a total of 3,782 staff. In the last one year, we managed to promote 1,031 and redesignate 203 staff to match their career line to facilitate their upward mobility,” Kahiga said.
