Homemade Baby Food to the Rescue (Part 1)
Weaning your baby has become so much fun, as you get to meal prep for your little ones as well. In the bid to eat healthy and live a healthy life style parents have become more conscious of how much chemicals go into store bought baby food and are beginning to relay more on home cooked meals for infants as young as 4 months. Baby foods are typically categorized into stages 1, 2 and 3.
These meals are usually processed with a blender or food processor to a very smooth consistency , this allows for easy digestion in babies who have just been introduced to solid meals ( (4)6-8 months) . It is advisable to start this stage with single ingredients, be sure to in a space of 4 days apart in case of any allergic reaction. Common food offered for stage 1 baby food are
Avocados, Apples, Bananas, Papaya, Pumpkin, Pears, Mango, Plums,
Prunes, Nectarines and Peaches.
Green Beans, Carrots, Peas, Sweet Potato, Squash.
Rice, Oatmeal, Barley
Here are some recipes for your baby;
¼ cup ground oat (blended)
¾ cup water
Bring water to a boil in a saucepan add blended oat while stirring constantly.
Simmer for 5 minutes, mix in breast milk or formula and fruits (optional)
¼ cup ground rice (brown rice ground in blender or food processor)
1 cup water
Bring water to a boil in a saucepan. Add the rice powder while stirring constantly.
Simmer for 10 minutes, whisking constantly, mix in formula or breast milk and fruits (optional), Serve warm.
